On the 18th of  April Tourism Ireland held the trade show in the Oberoi hotel in Mumbai, again there was an attendance of over 100 companies, followed by an media briefing to the travel media attended by journalists.

On both the 17th and 19th of April Tourism Ireland organised sales calls to the major travel trade companies for outbound tourists.

Of for the younger visitors to Dublin, why not pay a visit to the Phoenix Park where you can get the chance to meet some of the young deer born every year in the Park. George’s Arcade is a atmospheric Victorian red brick market full of quirky shops and across the way is the impressive Powerscourt Townhouse Centre – with a selection of shops and eateries, housed in Georgian splendour.

The venues include Smock Alley Theatre, one of the oldest theatres in Dublin, also The Gutter Bookshop on Cow’s Lane in Temple Bar, The National Library of Ireland on Kildare Street and Pearse Street Library.All of these venues are only a ten minute walk from the front door of the Central Hotel and where better place to unwind after attending some of the events than in the award winning Library Bar in the hotel.

Throughout the Festival there are talks taking place on just about every aspect of writing and publishing in Ireland, including those aimed at young writers and children.

During 2011 there were over 500 performances in 25 venues throughout Dublin City and the programme for 2012 looks to be just as exciting. The Festival runs from the 27th of September to the 14th of October.

Included in the programme are some well-known pieces including, The Picture of Dorian Gray – in the Abbey Theatre with a new staging directed and adapted by Neil Bartlett. Also featured is Hamlet – with the Wooster Group – one of the most innovative theatre companies operating today – the production is based on the 1964 film version with Richard Burton.

Another exciting production is James Joyce’s Dubliners – which is based on a series of short stories portraying Dublin City. Although the book was first published almost a hundred years ago, this will be the first production of Dubliners on stage by The Corn Exchange – an award winning Irish ensemble company. It is set to be a dramatic and provocative working of the piece, bringing it to life for a modern Dublin.
